Top 10 Revolvers for Self-Defense – Firearms Training Blog

This is actually a landing page for a link to an external article of the same name, by another person. It is a good article, and there is no need to reinvent the wheel, but I would like to add my own perspective. I would change the order, drop one gun, and add one gun. Here is my order:

10. Ruger GP100
9. Smith and Wesson Model 686
8. Smith and Wesson Model 640 Pro Series
7. Ruger SP101
6. Smith and Wesson 340 M&P
5. Smith and Wesson Model 442
4. Smith and Wesson Model 642
3. Taurus Executive .38 (added)
2. Kimber K6S (was #5)
1. Smith and Wesson Model 66 (was #10)

A few notes:

The S&W 66 is a classic, and does not deserve to be in last place.
The Kimber is a stunningly well-made compact gun, with great sights.
The Taurus is an example of their new CEO’s commitment to quality.
The S&W 686 and Ruger GP100 are very good, but a bit large for carry guns.
Honorable Mention: Taurus 605, a lightweight .357 suitable for pocket carry. It was a gift to me, but is a very good gun. I carry it often.
