McKinney Firearms Training: directions to the range

This may seem like a long way, but it is actually closer than any other outdoor training facility in the area, and more private. There are huge advantages to training outdoors, but we do have to deal with weather and driving distances. Plus, you get the advantage of training with an instructor who has taught over 5000 students in 9 years.

The new range is E of Plano, and East of Lake Lavon. It is due East of Plano, but there is a lake in the way, so below you will find Google maps from different areas. The northern route is out US 380, while the southern route is out Hwy 78. Most directions require 36-41 minutes. If you are coming from West of US 75 (Frisco, Prosper), that becomes 51-56 min. Sorry.

There are no restroom facilities, but there is a convenience store where you turn off of Hwy 78 (if coming from the North), or several places on Hwy 78 (if coming from the South).

If you use a navigation system, put in

17687 CR 537
Nevada, TX 75173

NOTE: if you go to the exact address shown above, you will be 50 yards past the range entrance gate.

In all cases, your last turn is onto CR 537.
4/10 mile after the turn, look for a white sign on the right with red letters: {CURRENTLY MISSING}
15 yds after that, another white sign with the red letters: "MFT".
That is the gate, but you won't see it until you miss it.

If the gate is open, drive in and park uphill from the range. If it is not, park on the side of the road and walk in, closing the gate behind you (cattle).

NOTE: I recommend long pants, tall socks, and tennis shoes or boots. We are in the country.
