The training class was perfect for what I needed. Mr. Keathley took time to ensure all of the students in class understood and then were able to apply handgun safety. He also helped all the students feel comfortable shooting and to be able to accurately hit targets. I would definitely recommend his class to friends and family!

My wife and I recently took the Learn to Shoot and several other private classes from Sandy including his LTC course. I had limited firearms experience and my wife had none. Sandy made us both feel comfortable and he was patient and knowledgeable. We got to sample multiple 9mm, .380, .40 pistols etc... in his class which helped immensely in understanding differences in ammunition, recoil, makes/models, and the differences when holding/firing. Sandy made both of us comfortable from day 1 and has given us additional knowledge and the confidence needed to further our self-defense training. We did not initially intend to pursue our Texas LTC, but after gaining a better understanding and respect for what Sandy was teaching, we thought it was the right thing to pursue...additional protections provided under State law, the importance of safety, etc... We highly recommend Sandy and the outdoor range is a great option compared to the indoor facilities.

Sandy was a wonderful instructor. I have shot a few diff guns before but never even loaded my own. I took this class with my friend who resides in Tx (I was visiting from NY) but has never held a gun, and wanted to get familiar with pistols. It was really good to learn about the different handguns, calibers, safety, loading, how to hold etc. There were 6 ppl in our group which was nice to get some personal attention. He was very clear and encouraging but was also quick to see and let you know when something needed to be corrected which I think is important and greatly appreciated. All together with the instruction then shooting practice was about 3 hours. Well worth it. I def recommend to all and would be good to get some additional practice and instruction with sandy in the future. Thanks Sandy.

The class I took is the beginner class. Sandy is wonderful and an amazing trainer! He is super detail oriented, explaining all the specs about a handgun and how to use it. And yet, he kept it very engaging and interesting! The beginner class is also very structured with both the demonstration and the practice. Highly recommended for someone who has no experience with gun and wants to learn it and gain confidence and get comfortable with it!!

I've had 3 sessions with Sandy - a "Learn to Shoot" pistols session, a private instruction session, and the License to Carry proficiency test session.

When I was first researching online for a firearms instructor, I chose to go with McKinney Firearms Training for these 3 main reasons (in no order of importance):

1) It's a beautiful outdoor range, and is much better compared to traditional indoor range.
2) It's a small locally owned business.
3) Sandy has decades of firearms experience, and has trained thousands of students.

And his experience in firearms instruction really shows. Sandy is a great instructor and makes classes both entertaining and extremely informative. What I liked most about his training is that it's not just "stand still and shoot". There's a bunch of different scenarios and drills that Sandy introduces to his students that are very applicable to potential real world self defense scenarios.

Besides pistols, he also has shotgun courses which can be very useful and I hope to take them sometime in the future.

I highly recommend McKinney Firearms Training to anyone looking to get started with guns, or to anyone who's into guns in general.

Hello Sandy
I wanted to say thank you once again on behalf of myself, my wife and our two sons for yesterday's "Learn to Shoot" lesson. Your technique relaxed us as a family, built from the basics in a very clear and understandable manner, and allowed us to leave at the end of the first lesson having faced our fears, and having learned and experienced that the gun is a tool like any other as long as it is handled according to its rules.
Thanks much.

I really enjoyed your class! You spent a lot of time on basic safety which I thought was excellent. Plus offering a variety of guns to fire was extremely valuable as it made me choose a more suitable weapon for practicing at a firing range, as protection for myself and eventually a license to carry concealed.

Some of the others classes I looked into only provided one choice of gun. It was well worth the time spent. Plus the follow up email on various types of guns etc. was very informative as well to keep as a reference. In addition, I knew my right eye was cross dominant but I didn't know that this could play a role in my shooting skills as well.

I watched several YouTube videos on the 380 Smith and Wesson and a couple of very experienced shooters had the "stovetop" problem you demonstrated. They all seemed to not know what caused this malfunction either. Thank you for that interesting informational phenomenon!

Felt at ease in private training facility that included small classroom, two bathrooms, with coffee and other refreshments provided. Adjacent private range for shooting qualification is outdoors. You can qualify with a 22 LR pistol and one person did, but why do that if it is not going to be your carry gun? The instructor is very knowledgeable and makes learning the law and other material easy. I believe most of us in the class passed the 25 question written test with a 100% score.

Sandy conducted a great class. He is well versed in the subject. The subject can be a bit dry but he keeps the class involved. I had to attend update classes to keep my instructor CDL license and know how boring a class can get with the wrong instructor at the podium.

The class was well organized and you should be able to pass the final exam with no trouble. The shooting portion is very easy if you have any proficiency with the firearm you intend to carry.

I highly recommend Sandy for this class. He also has proficiency classes if you are new to handguns or just want to get a bit of practice before you take the class.

In short, Sandy and his class are well worth the time and money. I would definitely recommend him to any in the Dallas area.

If you're reading this, chances are you're looking for a great place to build upon or enhance your training when it comes to firearms. Look no further - whether you are new to guns and are very apprehensive/nervous (we've all been there), are skilled and proficient or someone who falls somewhere in between, McKinney Firearms Training is definitely the place for you. Yes, the location is a bit in the country but that's what you need. The scenery there and back is pleasant and it's actually REALLY fun to be able to shoot your handgun outdoors in a safe environment. Most of Sandy's classes are small and personable. I took the LTC class and was plenty surprised by how many students in the class were old/older people who were not residents of Texas but took this class to get their education portion of the LTC knocked out. And Sandy knew each of us as we walked in. While I could've stayed local, I made the hour trip to get taught by Sandy and man, is he one smart and ultra sharp instructor! I learned about the law in ways that made sense to me, the class wasn't boring and if you come to this class to want to learn, Sandy is the guy to teach you! Worth the drive and definitely worth the price!!! I'm surprised he doesn't offer more classes during the week. Run and sign up for the training programs and go see Sandy while you still have the opportunity: this is DEFINITELY the guy you'll want to learn from and who you'll want to teach you!!!

With little or no experience with firearms, I took the Learn to Shoot class. Since I didn't own a firearm I paid the extra money to use his firearm & ammunition. It was a great choice since I got to shoot with multiple firearms, which helped me decide which firearm to purchase or which firearm will suit my lifestyle. This class was totally worth it. I then took the CHL/LTC class which was not boring as I initially thought, but I found it very informative. Sandy has a lot of experience with firearms and those experiences made this class very interesting. He was very patient to answer all questions I had, especially the dumb questions. I was able to pass both the tests, the shooting & the written tests. Made the decision to get my License to Carry handgun. That was the easy part. Figuring out the best place to get the class was a little harder. Seems like everyone and their dog does firearms training. I talked to my friends, read a lot of reviews, and talked to several different instructors, and made my decision to go with Sandy at McKinney Firearms Training. The training itself was very good, almost self explanatory, and Sandy offers enough additional information through personal experience to make the course interesting. I've talked to some of my friends who said their instructor basically read off a number of slides, making for a very boring 4 hours, so much so it was hard to stay awake. I had a fair bit of experience with handguns, but it was many years ago. Sandy talked me through it, then worked with me on the range to correct some things so I easily qualified. Sandy was great to work with, and easy to communicate with. He answered my many emails typically within an hour or so. It was also nice to have a classroom and range at the same location out in the country north of McKinney. If you're looking for firearms training for a little brush-up, a first time shooter, or to get your License to Carry, I highly recommend McKinney Firearms Training.

I took the classroom part at Frisco Gun Club, but the experience was not good:

The instructor ***** was:
- Somewhat condescending
- Brash
- Did not pass pass out an outline or a syllabus
- There was no option about qualifying immediately after the written portion of the class or doing it later
- Their front desk was very nice and tried to help me get that certification sheet, but it took three tries to get it done.
- My over all opinion was , the Club was a nice facility, but the instructor was a pompous ass.

I went to Sandy at McKinney Firearms Training for the Proficiency, and it was a much better experience. He hands out a complete syllabus, and does the Proficiency for everyone, immediately after class.

Relaxed atmosphere, take home folders with the entire course material printed for later review and also extra reading which is beneficial. Mr. Keathley was professional and got the course complete in a timely manner which I know I appreciated as did everyone else I'm sure. Also he offers weekday classes which is nice if you work weekends as I do. Overall efficient and easy to follow in his delivery of course material.

I'm sending a quick note of sincere thanks. Today's education was a perfect introduction to learning more about guns and how to handle them safely. I feel much less ignorant, which has already alleviated a noticeable amount of fear. I know there's a way still to go, so thank you for your time and patience in answering the questions of a genuinely inexperienced person.

My husband also commented on feeling comfortable with learning and using the different pistols.

I attended McKinney Firearms Training on 11/12/16 with my daughter. I grew up around guns, having come from a family of hunters and I strictly believe in the 2nd Amendment. I really enjoyed the whole class and gun range experience with Dr. Keathley. I felt that the class time and range time were a good mix. He is a very good instructor and very knowledgeable. My husband and I registered for the Learn to Shoot class after becoming overwhelmed at a shooting range - we had quickly realized that we needed help before taking a CHL class. The class was small (about 7 people) and while it was a serious topic, the atmosphere was casual, making it easy and comfortable to ask questions. Sandy's Learn to Shoot class taught us basic gun safety rules and then we learned grip, stance, sighting, recoil, etc. He explained WHY the safety rules were so important and potential consequences of not following them. We were able to shoot a variety of different handguns after the classroom portion. We feel so much better now handling guns safely and without fear. Thank you Sandy!

I have nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Keathley's LTC course. Registration was a snap and the classroom portion was thorough, detailed and interesting. In addition to covering the required materials, Sandy added anecdotes based on recent news stories and events as well as personal experience, all of which added relevant information and kept the class from becoming boring. The short drive to the range was easy and the testing there was professional, safe and efficient. I couldn't be more pleased with my experience and will wholeheartedly recommend MFT in the future. Sandy Keathley's License to Carry (LTC) class was an excellent course. Mr. Keathley's professionalism and knowledge is highly demonstrated during my time with him inside and outside of the classroom. He is inviting and attentive to questions, and responds accordingly with detailed answers. During classroom time (the duration is about a four hours), is insightful and engaging for both those who know absolutely nothing about firearms/self-defense, and/or for those who happen to be very well versed in the subject matter. The format used during the presentation and approach were sophisticated; and his expertise translates well with others. The shooting range is simple, but proficient. Mr. Keathley's professionalism was in full force - firearm safety was his number one priority, and he exercised this efficiently. My experience outside of classroom was outstanding. Mr. Keathley responded to emails in a timely fashion, was precise, and systematic with his answer(s). He was a great guide for all of my questions. If you seek to take a License to Carry (LTC) class, I highly recommend Sandy Keathley.

Very professional course taught by Mr. Keathley. No feeling of rush or impatience by Mr. Keathley; but the class schedule and timeline were held to very well, even with the allowance of questions by the group. That is a sign of excellent preparation and strong knowledge of what is being presented. The classroom portion was informative and easy to follow.

The outside range location is excellent for allowing one to stay focused on the course. I have witnessed an indoor range teaching LTC and even though there were multiple instructors, at least one of the instructors always seemed to be moving back and forth trying to communicate with everyone. Mr. Keathley kept strong control over the outdoor range portion of the course, while showing patience if someone had a gun jam or misfire. He kept everyone on the same page and informed on what they should be doing. I do not recall anyone firing more or less rounds than he had instructed, throughout the entire course.

Great command and discipline and ability to share knowledge. I Highly recommend any courses taught at McKinney Firearms Training.

I took Sandy Keathley's LTC (Lic to Carry) course and found it to be very well organized, and informative beyond just the State's reqd. minimums. Sandy's teaching style is anything but monotonous, where his conscientious style keeps this course very engaging. Sandy knows when to throw in a bit of witty humor, and he lightens-up the few heavy/serious topics which are the reqd understandings in LTC proficiency. I chose Sandy's class after watching the YouTube promo on his web page. Glad I did. He accommodates folks who know a little, a lot, and next to nothing. He is very patient with people who haven't shot much, yet keeps very good control over the line when it's time to hit the target.

Learned a lot in the class, particularly around the moving gray areas in TX and nationally. If you're like I am, you'd almost rather be shot than shoot someone else. But current events would call for us to be aware and prepared for loved ones and neighbors' sake.

Highly recommended, and I plan to take a tactical class with him soon.

We participated in Sandy's Intro to Handguns class in February 2015. The class included basic understandings of the difference between revolvers and semi-automatic handguns as well as single and double action. The instructor was very passionate about safety above all else when handling a firearm. I felt he made everyone comfortable in regards to how safe a gun can be when handled properly even with little to no knowledge of firearms.

We had the opportunity to load both types of guns as well as fire each caliber multiple times with the instructor by our side coaching us in proper grip and aiming techniques. Sandy pointed out brands, costs and good and bad points of each to help us reach our own conclusion as to which firearm we may want to look further into if we decide we want to purchase a gun. We highly recommend Sandy's class to all handgun newbies.

As I knew absolutely nothing about guns, and was, quite frankly, afraid of them, Dr. Keathley's class was a perfect introduction. He answered all my questions in a professional, kindly manner that encouraged me to ask even "dumb" questions. He also explained the "mechanics" of guns in such a way that now I feel like I can handle any gun safely. The "hands-on" information from the variety of guns he provided for us to actually shoot is particularly useful for deciding what kind of a gun to purchase.
