About Us

Welcome to McKinney Firearms Training!

We offer both beginner and intermediate pistol instruction, Handgun License classes, introductory shotgun classes, and private instruction for residents of the Collin County and Rockwall County areas, as well as providing Active Shooter Training for local school systems. Classroom training is done at your school, with range training at a private outdoor range a few miles E of Plano.

Handgun License classes are taught online, as directed by The Texas Dept of Public Safety. Classroom instruction requires approximately 4 hours, plus a short test, plus the shooting proficiency test. This is a no-fail course, and is offered online at a discount to our students. The Proficiency test is given at our private outdoor range.

Our most popular class is the Learn to Shoot class. These are classes of 6 or less, sometimes 3-4. We meet at our private range, spend a little time learning the safety rules, action types, and fundamentals, then practice shooting under direct supervision. Students taking this class generally do very well on the LTC Proficiency, if that is their goal.

About the LTC Process

Individuals who are legally eligible to own a firearm, and meet further requirements of the State of Texas, may apply for and receive a license to carry a handgun in public. Texas is a "shall issue" state, so they are required to issue the license if you meet the statutory requirements. Note that a gun license in Texas is not required either to buy a gun, or to keep one at home or in your vehicle.

LTC Eligibility

Each student must determine for themselves their eligibility to obtain a Gun License. Please review eligibility requirements closely before registering, as we cannot be responsible for this. The DPS makes the final determination on these matters. Introduction to Pistol Shooting

Taught entirely at a private shooting range, this pistol course is intended for beginners of any age. Owning a gun is not necessary (but helpful); loaner guns are available (with ammo) for a small charge.

Firearms Training for Women

Women are now the biggest demographic for both pistol training and concealed carry classes. Increasingly, women are seeking to empower themselves. We understand that dynamic, and welcome ladies into our classes. A custom "Ladies Only" class can be scheduled on request, but there has never been any feedback to suggest that ladies felt uncomfortable in our low-testosterone classes. The "learn to Shoot" classes in particular are already 80% women.
