About Us

Welcome to McKinney LTC and Firearms Training!

We provide Texas LTC (CHL) Handgun License classes, firearms training / safety courses, introductory pistol and shotgun classes, and private instruction for residents of the Collin County area, including McKinney, Plano, Frisco, Prosper, Allen, Princeton, Anna, Celina, Trenton, Blue Ridge, Leonard, Farmersville, Nevada, Wylie, Greenville, Bonham, and nearby communities, as well as providing specialized firearms training for the Palmer and Melissa school systems. LTC Range Training is taught at a private outdoor range a few miles SE of Princeton.

Handgun License classes are taught online, as directed by The Texas Dept of Public Safety. Classroom instruction requires approximately 4 hours, plus a short test, plus the shooting proficiency test. This is a no-fail course, and is offered online at a discount to our students.

Many people who are interested in getting a gun license have not yet learned to shoot, so for them, we also offer a Learn to Shoot class. These are classes of 6 or less, sometimes 3. We meet at a private range, spend a little time learning the safety rules, action types, and some fundamentals, then practice shooting under direct supervision. Students taking this class generally do very well on the LTC Proficiency.

  1. Firearm safety
  2. Handgun features and nomenclature
  3. Revolver vs. semi-automatic
  4. Action types
  5. Ammunition types
  6. Safe pistol loading and clearing
  8. Establishing the shooting platform
  9. Laser pistol training
  10. Dry-fire and live-fire practice

PLEASE NOTE: CHL and LTC both mean the same thing. CHL has now been replaced by LTC, but that is a cosmetic change. Texas License To Carry.

LEOSA Proficiency offered by request, $25.00.

I took the defensive class with Sandy and was very impressed. He was very detailed in his instruction and helped me to tighten up my firearms training. I'm planning on continuing to work with Sandy on a regular basis. Great p.....

About the LTC Process

Individuals who are legally eligible to own a firearm, and meet further requirements of the State of Texas, may apply for and receive a license to carry a handgun in public. Texas is a "shall issue" state, so they are required to issue the license if you meet the statutory requirements. Note that a gun license in Texas is not required either to buy a gun, or to keep one at home or in your vehicle.

LTC Eligibility

Each student must determine for themselves their eligibility to obtain a Gun License. Please review eligibility requirements closely before registering, as we cannot be responsible for this. The DPS makes the final determination on these matters. If, after reading the material on this site, you need to speak to a DPS representative about an eligibility issue, call 512-424-7293 from 8-5 M-F.

Learn to Shoot

Introduction to Pistol Shooting

Taught entirely at a private shooting range, this pistol course is intended for beginners of any age. Owning a gun is not necessary (but helpful); loaner guns are available (with ammo) for a small charge.

Firearms Training for Women

Women are now the biggest demographic for both pistol training and concealed carry classes. Increasingly, women are seeking to empower themselves. We understand that dynamic, and welcome ladies into our classes. A custom "Ladies Only" class can be scheduled on request, but there has never been any feedback to suggest that ladies felt uncomfortable in our classes. The "learn to Shoot" classes in particular are already 80% women.
