Welcome to McKinney LTC and Firearms Training!
We provide Texas LTC (CHL) Handgun License classes, firearms training / safety courses, introductory pistol and shotgun classes, and private instruction for residents of the Collin County area, including McKinney, Plano, Frisco, Prosper, Allen, Princeton, Anna, Celina, Trenton, Blue Ridge, Leonard, Farmersville, Bonham, and nearby communities. LTC Classes are taught at a private classroom/range complex a few miles outside of McKinney.
Handgun License classes follow the Texas state-mandated requirements, and are taught as directed by The Texas Dept of Public Safety. Classroom instruction requires approximately 4 hours, plus a short test, plus the shooting proficiency test. This is a no-fail course.
We offer the License To Carry Class for just $80.00 (including range fees). These are small classes, usually 15 or less, so you have plenty of opportunity to interact with the instructor and the class, and ask questions. View the checklist. For help for non-English speakers, click here.
Many people who are interested in getting a gun license have not yet learned to shoot, so for them, we also offer a Learn to Shoot class. These are classes of 7 or less, sometimes 3. We meet at a private range, spend a little time indoors learning the safety rules, action types, and some fundamentals, then go on the range and shoot under direct supervision.
McKinney Firearms Training is now certified to teach the new School Safety Certification. This is Active Shooter training for school employees. Read about it here.
PLEASE NOTE: CHL and LTC both mean the same thing. CHL has now been replaced by LTC, but that is a cosmetic change. Texas License To Carry.
TCOLE or LEOSA Proficiency offered by request, $25.00.

About the LTC Process
Individuals who are legally eligible to own a firearm, and meet further requirements of the State of Texas, may apply for and receive a license to carry a handgun in public. Texas is a "shall issue" state, so they are required to issue the license if you meet the statutory requirements. Note that a gun license in Texas is not required either to buy a gun, or to keep one at home or in your vehicle.
Each student must determine for themselves their eligibility to obtain a Gun License. Please review eligibility requirements closely before registering, as we cannot be responsible for this. The DPS makes the final determination on these matters. If, after reading the material on this site, you need to speak to a DPS representative about an eligibility issue, call 512-424-7293 from 8-5 M-F.
Learn to Shoot
Introduction to Pistol Shooting
Taught entirely at a private firing range, this pistol course is intended for beginners of any age. Owning a gun is not necessary (but helpful); loaner guns are available (with ammo) for a small charge.
School Safety Certification
For teachers and other employees of public/private school systems, this two-day class is intensive active shooter training. It includes identifying threats, barricading classrooms, helping students escape, self-defense strategies with or without a firearm, combat mindset, and other topics. McKinney Firearms Training is the first company in Dallas certified by Texas DPS to teach this certification course.
Firearms Training for Women
Women are now the biggest demographic for both pistol training and concealed carry classes. Increasingly, women are seeking to empower themselves. We understand that dynamic, and welcome ladies into our classes. A custom "Ladies Only" class can be scheduled on request, but there has never been any feedback to suggest that ladies felt uncomfortable in our classes. The "learn to Shoot" classes in particular are already 80% women.
